Copy a form or edit the existing form

Understand the copy and edit-existing choices before adding signatures or workflow settings to a Google Form.

The Google Forms signature, workflow and HIPAA import screens offer two paths. Their default text says Make a copy of Google Form. The Edit my existing form link opens a separate path that uses the form you already own.

Choose before you proceed

Use a copy when you want a separate version to review or when the current form already serves another purpose. Choose edit-existing when you intend to configure the source form itself and have the required access. If you are unsure which account owns the source, resolve that first.

The edit-existing link changes the source choice; inspect it before starting the import.

Make a copyIdentify the newly created form, review its contents and share its resulting signing link. Existing links to the original are not automatically the new link.
Edit my existing formReview the source form's current use and permissions before applying signature or workflow changes.

Follow the selected route

  1. Open the appropriate product entry: Form signature, workflow, or HIPAA setup.
  2. Read the copy/edit text above and below the source-link input. Switch to Edit my existing form only if that is your intention.
  3. Paste the form link or use Browse, and confirm the selected source title and Google account.
  4. Proceed through setup. Review the resulting form, settings and sharing link rather than assuming that its title proves its identity.

Check existing collection and output

Before changing a form that is already collecting responses, record which link respondents use and which Google Form or Sheet staff read. Check the existing notifications, required fields and workflow. Adding a new required signature can change the task future respondents must complete.

Do not assume either route migrates response history, rewrites existing signed records, preserves every integration, or updates every previously distributed link. Check the actual resulting destinations and follow Google sync for the connection you need. If the source or current response behavior is unclear, use a separate demonstration copy first or contact support.
